Applying for a new position can be a daunting endeavor. However, staffing agencies are often able to streamline the process considerably. Quite often, there are application requirements that are the same across the board. While some specific requirements can vary based on the facility, having the below items when applying will provide for a much smoother application process.
Believe it or not, this needs to be mentioned. Hearing “I don’t have a resume” is more common than you might think. However, many facilities require a resume for initial consideration. Therefore, your resume can be the first impression you make with the facility (aka your future employer). There are great free templates available on Google that can help you create a resume in a snap! While your recruiter will help you amend as needed based on the specific job requirements, it is always best to have a working copy as a place to start.
Most, if not all, employment opportunities in the medical field require a certain certification or licensing. These are specialized positions where credentialing is mandatory. If you do not actively hold the certification or licensing needed for a position, it is best not to apply. After all, one of the first documents that will be requested from you is a copy of your relevant license. While you may be a wonderful chef who is unfortunately out of work due to the pandemic, the staffing agency cannot magically turn you into a CNA.
In addition to your professional license, most positions require proof of your life saving certification. Whether you have CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), BLS (Basic Life Support), or ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), you should be able to provide a copy of your card to your recruiter. Additionally, it is important to verify with your recruiter that you have the appropriate credentials for the specific position you are applying.
Do you have the name, phone number and email for two people you have worked with previously? More so, are these people available and allowed to provide a reference for you? It is important to consider scheduling and HR laws in your state when providing references. When your recruiter is forced to spend time chasing down your references, it can lead to your application being delayed and you risk missing the submission deadline for your desired opportunity.
While these are often a part of the initial list of documents requested, it can vary slightly from facility to facility. In addition to a copy of your valid driver’s license, you may also be asked to provide a copy of your social security card. Facilities also require applicants to provide a copy of their most recent TB screening. Other screenings can include drug testing, physicals / statement of good health, and mandatory COVID-19 testing. Your staffing specialist will go over the requirements related to your specific opportunity. Nevertheless, it is important to understand that the recruiter is responsible for verifying who you are and that you are healthy.
As we have mentioned previously, the application requirements can vary slightly from facility to facility, or state to state. However, our list of documents is a great place to start. If you have these documents at hand, your application process will certainly go a lot smoother than it would without them. As the saying goes, better safe than sorry, right? If you have any questions about one of our positions, or what the requirements may be, send us a message! We are happy to help.
